TAKE ACTION THIS WEEK:
-
Our food basket needs filling: Our children will be bringing the Food Basket forward at the Offertory during All God’s Children service. Can you bring in a non-perishable food item to share? We’ll be taking these offerings to local pantries in River Vale, Norwood, Hillsdale and other local areas. Thank you.
-
Feeding God’s Hungry People: The congregations of District Nine (that’s us) are working together this lent to make a Lenten gift to the Center for Food Action, to feed hungry people in Bergen, Essex and Passaic counties. Each of our congregations will combine its donations for what we hope will be a $5,000 total of gifts. There is a collection box in the library for our contributions.
-
Lisa Degnen is collecting gift cards for our neighbors the Stackpole family, who lost all their possessions in a house fire. Please see Lisa for more information on how to contribute.
-
This Saturday, April 27: the Harrington Park baseball, softball and T-ball season kicks off with a parade and opening ceremonies at Highland Field. Pastor Diane will offer the invocation and blessing.
-
Family Promise guests arrive this Sunday, April 28. Please keep our guests, volunteers, and the entire Family Promise team in your prayers this week.
LOOKING AHEAD INTO MAY:
-
Fish and Chips—without the work! Our friends at St. Paul’s Church in Montvale are sponsoring a Fish (or Chicken) and Chips dinner next Saturday, May 4, beginning at 5:00 pm. St. Andrew’s folks always reserve a table, so please sign up TODAY so the Rector can give them an accurate count. Libations other than iced tea are BYO, so feel free! See you in Montvale at 5:00 pm!
-
REMINDER: Bishop Carlye J. Hughes will visit St. Andrew’s on Sunday, May 5. WE WILL HAVE ONE WORSHIP SERVICE ON THAT DAY, beginning at 9:00 am. It will incorporate elements of both All God’s Children and Holy Eucharist—Rite II, the liturgies that together make St. Andrew’s unique in the Diocese of Newark. Our children will take an active part (as always!) in the service. Please invite family and friends to join you for worship on this very special day.
-
Also on May 5: the first of the Confirmation services for St. Andrew’s is happening! Tyler Degnen, Desireé Fink and Tommy Fowler will be confirmed at 3:00 pm, at St. Paul’s Church in Englewood. On Sunday, May 19 at 3:00 pm, Michael Biskup will be confirmed at Trinity and St. Philip’s Cathedral in Newark. Everyone is invited to attend both services. Please keep our Confirmands in your prayers.
-
Also on May 5: Family Promise “Hike for Hope” will be underway in Ridgewood. Both Paul Shackford and Kate Duggan are inviting you to sponsor them, and it’s easy to do (even your Rector managed it without a hitch!) Talk to Kate or Paul about the on-line access.
-
On Friday, May 10 you can help defeat juvenile leukemia. Tyler Adel and Friends will present a concert in partnership with the Harrington Park School Parents’ Association and St. Andrew’s Church. Proceeds will benefit leukemia and lymphoma research— focused on children. Suggested donation–$10.00. Please mark your calendars and join the fight against leukemia.
ONGOING OPPORTUNITIES:
-
Sunday School is thriving! It’s time for Hearts Alive! —right after All God’s Children every first and third Sunday at 9:45 am in the Parish Hall.
-
Coffee hour needs you. Coffee, cookies and a bottle of juice make fellowship happen after worship. The sign-up sheet is in the library—Please add your name!! Note: We need hosts for both the 9:00 am and the 10:15 am services. Thank you!
-
You can sign up to give the altar flowers on Sunday morning in memory, or in thanksgiving, for someone or something close to your heart. The donation is $35.00, and the Altar Guild will order the flowers for you. If you prefer to bring and arrange your own flowers, a donation of just $5.00 helps offset the ongoing cost of altar candles, wafers, linens, etc.
